Videos showing BlastSax undergoing stringent tests
Testing BlastSax
Comprehensive tests have proved how effective BlastSax are at mitigating blast and fragmentation from IEDs and small explosive devices such as grenades.
These were carried out under strict test conditions using approved surrogate devices which meet British Standards.
The BlastSax’s composite material extinguishes the incendiary hazard while significantly reducing the velocity of any fragmentation from the explosive device. BlastSax reduces the blast overpressure, reducing collateral damage.
The tests were carried out first with 7 BlastSax and then with 14, with screens of heavy duty plastic sheeting placed around the test area and 5 metres from the blast to capture and show up all fragmentation.
When there was no mitigation at all the sheets showed up 304 fragmentation hits.
When 7 BlastSax were placed around the explosive device this was reduced to just 30.
When 14 BlastSax were then deployed only 7 fragmentation hits were recorded.
These photos show the remarkable difference to the sheets when nothing was used to mitigate the explosion and then when 14 BlastSax were deployed.
BlastSax mitigating an explosion
This video shows how effective BlastSax are at mitigating blast and fragmentation from IEDs and small explosive devices such as grenades.
Unlike sandbags, they will absorb some of the debris which could be vital evidence in any investigation into an IED blast.
