2024 has seen the launch of the new BlastSax
The BlastSax has been upgraded and improved over the years and 2024 sees the launch of the BlastSax MKV.
It has more layering systems and chambers within its internal system to better retain the water - keeping the BlastSax alternative sandbag even tauter for longer - and enhance its mitigation along with its chem bio capabilities. This all reinforces the BlastSax’s formidable reputation as the original and best military sandless sandbag in the world.
All the improvements over the years have been made in close liaison with the British Army.
The MK V BlastSax has an extra layering system bringing it up to 4 layers and 3 more chambers, now making 12 in total. It’s also slightly smaller than the MK IV for ease of handling and they come in cases of 14 in two heat-sealed packs each containing 7 BlastSax.
The absorbent chambers are sewn together into an outer sleeve of a nonwoven material. This is then sewn together and wrapped in hessian cloth.
The overall dimensions of the BlastSax before hydration and before they are vacuum-packed are 530mm long by 470mm wide and 20mm deep. After they’ve been immersed in clean or grey water they increase to 200mm deep with the 530mm and 470mm length and width sizes remaining the same. They do not work effectively in saltwater.
The BlastSax outer cover is a hessian cloth, its sleeve is a nonwoven polypropylene hydrophilic while the internal absorption material is a low energy fluff pulp and a super absorbent polymer.
They are non-toxic, non-hazardous and are largely biodegradable by weight, making them far more environmentally friendly than traditional sandbags.
When fully activated each BlastSax weighs around 20kg.
